Growing up my favorite toy was a fresh box of crayons and a coloring book. My dream job at age 5 was to color cells for Disney movies. Throughout school my favorite class was art. Of course, I went to college and studied design. Now 2 years out, I’ve found my art supplies collecting dust and creative juices slowing to a trickle. In today’s world of techno over kill, a job in an architectural firm means I use a computer 8 hours a day rarely laying my hand on a pencil. Granted I much prefer CAD to hand drafting, there is something missing from my life.
This blog’s goal is to force me to dust off my supplies, get my hands dirty, fill my room with the unmistakable smell of prismacolor markers, and get back to basics.
I think the writing gene was passed on to all of ussss
aww thanks Erin, that means a lot. I think the artsy gene was passed on as well.
Best blog on the internet. And I’ve read them all…
I love your blog. Looking forward to seeing more work with those markers! Following so I don’t miss out 🙂
Hmm, but you can create pretty neat art from CAD, as well, don’t you think? I use it more as engineer, but I have seen the stuff our trainer did with it.
CAD definitely has it’s place in life. I’m not knocking it at all. (To think about all the erasers lives that are saved by CAD when it comes to project changes) I actually use it a lot to plan out what I’m going to do be it elevations for furniture/art placement or future house dreaming. However, there’s also something magical about hand sketching or getting paint on your hands that CAD will never compare to. Thanks for reading!
I have just quit my desk day job to finish my masters full-time in Interior Architecture/design. I totally love hand drafting and rendering but alas the way of the world is on the computer! My dream job is a store with a mix of hand-crafted items, re-furb items and some food! Nice blog!
Good luck with your masters! Intense program for sure (speaking as an Interior Design Major). I would probably go bankrupt in your dream store. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and your kind words.
i just added a world map on my fb of places i’ve visited and lived. I didn’t realize that i’ve lived at 3 different countries, 2 continents and visited more than 25 citites…enjoyed your blog.
Hi lizchack. I reblogged one of your posts on my blog MapManDan. I hope you don’t mind this. If so let me know and I’ll take it off for you. Dan
